Dorothy Stringer is a popular comprehensive school for approximately 1500 students aged between 11 and 16. The school has been extensively modernised, refurbished and equipped with state of the art learning resources. The school's high academic performance is supported by excellent subject accommodation, which generates an exciting and creative learning environment.

These facilities are also the backdrop for Dorothy Stringer's prestigious position as a Government nominated Training School; 'Partnership Promotion School; Brighton and Hove School Sports Coordinator and Specialist Sports College.

With our PFI partners Jarvis Construction, we have built a breathtaking Sports Hall, Dance Studio and Fitness Suite. These fabulous facilities complement the indoor swimming pool, tennis courts and extensive playing fields around the school.

Dorothy Stringer has a unique Outdoor Adventure Activities (OAA) Centre - 'Dolawen' in Snowdonia, North Wales - which we use for academic, sports and 'Duke of Edinburgh Scheme' activities.

The 'INTERREG' project reflects Dorothy Stringer's European and global ambitions. We have an exceedingly successful exchange with a German grammar school in the Black Forest There have been multi-sport trips to Paris and Barcelona, ski and cultural trips to Italy and football tours to Florida.

Dorothy Stringer operates a successful work-based curriculum in partnership with City College, 'Connexions' and local employers, We have been selected by the Government to coordinate an Enterprise Pathfinder Scheme and explore innovative strategies for Business Education.

Dorothy Stringer has also been awarded 'Healthy School' and 'EcoSchool' status. We promote healthy eating in our canteen, and pupils' toilet facilities are ultra modern, regularly cleaned and constantly supervised. The school has been successful in winning external funding to develop an Ecological and Environmental Centre to promote the natural fauna and wildlife habitats around the Stringer site. Dorothy Stringer has the 2003 Franco British Council Schools Partnership Prize for an environmental project with Institution St. Joseph in Le Havre, France.

We lead on a project funded by the European Union under its INTERREG iiiA Programme to promote 'cross-border' cooperation with France. This will involve a host of stimulating joint class initiatives, educational trips and exchanges with our new partner school Institution St. Joseph in Le Havre.
