Three Separate Science GCSEs (Triple Science)
- Triple Science is delivered in addition to Core Science and Additional Science
- Triple + Additional + Core gives three GCSEs in Biology, Chemistry and Physics
- allows pupils to study each science in greater detail
- assessed by three written exams
- includes three straightforward centre-assessed practical units (25%)
- visit the AQA website for Biology, Chemistry, and Physics details
Triple Science pupils (Biology, Chemistry and Physics) will study the following modules alongside the three Additional Science modules:
- Biology 3 Exchanging substances, circulation, the effects of exercise, kidney function, using micro-organisms
- Chemistry 3 The periodic table, pH, water, energy in reactions, chemical analysis
- Physics 3 Moments, centripetal forces and orbits; mirrors and lenses; sound and ultrasound; using electricity; life cycle of stars
One of these modules will be assessed in a formal, externally marked written exam in January of Year 11, at the same time as the first Additional Science module. Exams to assess the other 2 modules are taken in the summer of Year 11, alongside the remaining 2 Additional Science modules. Each exam is worth 25% of the final mark.
The other 25% of the GCSE will be assessed by internally sat and marked “Investigative Skills Assessments” (ISA). Triple Scientists must have completed one ISA for each Science (Biology, Chemistry and Physics). The ISAs assessed as part of the Core and Additional Science courses can be submitted.
