History of ReligionSo that pupils are aware of the basis for religions in the world today, we begin Year 7 with a study of the religious practices and possible beliefs of Paleolithic burials and cave paintings through to Neolithic structures such as Stonehenge and other prehistoric sites. We then examine the rise of civilization in Mesopotamia (modern day Iraq) and how people give meaning to their world through creation stories. |
Pupils are assessed by writing a speech in which they imagine that they are from Paleolithic
times and have been transported through time to give a talk to primary school pupils on their
beliefs and practices. Pupils are also assessed on their ability to explain Stonehenge with
reference to hypotheses on why it was built, looking at supporting evidence.
Pupils are assessed by creating their own Creation Story and commenting on the meaning.

It aims to give pupils a basic understanding of the different types of writing in the Bible, the difference between literal and symbolic meaning and to familiarise pupils with its structure. |
