RS Mock Exam
The exam lasts for 1 ˝ hours. There are 4 sections – from the viewpoint of Christianity and at least one other religion, which is Islam. For each section, there is a choice of two questions. You only do one question from each section but you must attempt all parts of the question, so do parts a, b, c and d.
- Part (a) often a simple definition (a sentence, 2 examples). Worth 2 marks
- Part (b) describing or outlining beliefs or teachings on a topic. Worth 6 marks
- Part (c) explaining why a religion holds their teachings. Worth 8 marks
- Part (d) a statement which asks for your opinion and those of others, including reasons for the viewpoints. Worth 4 marks
There will be 2 sections each Social Responsibility and Crime and Punishment:
Social Responsibility: Bible; Church; Conscience; Situation Ethics; Electoral System; National and local government; Involvement of Religion and Politics; Separation of Religion and Politics, including Bonhoeffer and Prisoners of Conscience; Welfare State, including Parable of the Sheep and Goats
Crime and Punishment: Laws; Crime; Punishment, including Capital Punishment; Justice and Forgiveness – all from Christianity and Islam

- 4b Choose ONE religion other than Christianity and outline the attitudes to capital punishment in that religion.
- 4c Explain why are there are different attitudes to punishment in Christianity.
- 4d “You should never break the law.” Do you agree? Give reasons for your opinion, showing you have considered another point of view. In your answer you should refer to at least one other religion.
