Careers Education and Guidance at Stringer
"The programme of careers education and guidance at Dorothy Stringer is very good; it is successfully delivered through the Personal, Social and Health Education programme..... It provides a well-structured Careers programme to introduce them to the world of work and further education..... The school has a well researched Careers Library, which pupils are encouraged to use both formally and informally." Ofsted 2001
Careers
Careers education and guidance is an integral part of the PSHE programme. Starting in Year 7 we endeavour to prepare pupils for the world of work and the choices they may make.
In KS4 we spend time looking at post 16 options, encouraging all pupils to apply to a further education establishment to pursue study or training of some kind.
The Careers Resource Centre
The school is proud to have a Careers Resource Centre containing the Connexions Resource Centre Index (CRCI), computer programmes such as Kudos and Key Clips, university prospectuses, FE prospectuses and other information to support career management, such as help for writing CVs.
The Careers resource Centre is situated in L3 at the top of L Block. It is open every lunchtime from 12.20 - 1pm. Pupils can use computers or hard copies of information to help them make the right decisions for their future and begin to map out how best to reach their goals.
Work Experience Week
At the end of Year 10 all pupils participate in a week of Work Experience. This gives pupils a chance to develop new skills, meet new people, enter in to a job that they might be considering for their future and first hand experience of what the world of work is really like.
We are always looking for new placements for our pupils. If you or your company think that you may be able to take on one of our pupils for next year's Work Experience programme, which will run from Monday 9th - Friday 13th July 2007, then please contact the school with your details and we will send you a booklet containing further information.
We also run a "Take you child to work day" for all Year 9 pupils as a building block for Work Experience. This usually takes place during Activities Week towards the end of the academic year. All pupils in Year 9 are given the option of accompanying a family member to work for one day to begin to see how work places operate and to broaden their perspective on the working world.
