Pastoral Care
In sending your child to Dorothy Stringer you place us in a position of trust. In accepting your child we, in turn, are determined to offer the best possible education and at the same time act as responsible 'Parents' whilst pupils are in our care. |

On admission, pupils are placed in mixed ability tutor groups and allocated a Form Tutor. Considerable care is given to placing pupils in these groups and consideration is given to pupils' friendships and advice offered by primary school teachers.
Each year group also has a Head of Year who is responsible for supporting both pupils and staff. They regularly monitor attendance, punctuality and uniform. Overall responsibility for pastoral care and general discipline is in the hands of the Deputy Head, Pastoral Care, who works closely with the Heads of Lower and Upper Schools.
We believe that it is in the child's best interest for education to be a close partnership between home and school. As a result, considerable efforts are made to ensure that communication between parents and teachers is as full as possible. Formal Parents' Consultative Meetings are held at least once a year, and any parent who is concerned is welcome to visit the school at other times between such meetings.
Similarly, the school contacts parents if staff become aware of any problems.
For parents of Year 7 children, because they are so new to the school, there are two opportunities to meet teachers: an informal meeting with form tutors early in September and a formal consultation meeting later on in the year.
