We have now received the report of our recent OfSTED inspection and I am delighted to say that it is very pleasing. The summary judgement is that Dorothy Stringer is a good and improving school with some outstanding features.
Particularly pleasing are the many references to the pupils who, the lead inspector reported to me, were the friendliest pupils he had ever come across. Several passages deserve mention: ‘Pupils are extremely enthusiastic about their life at school’; ‘Pupils behave well, both in and between lessons and show concern for each other’s welfare’; ‘Pupils make an extraordinary contribution to the community both outside and within school’; ‘A rich tapestry of residential visits broaden pupils’ educational experiences and these additional opportunities are one of the reasons why the pupils behave sensibly, demonstrating good attitudes to learning and very clearly enjoying their education. Relationships between the pupils themselves and with staff are a striking feature’. Please also have a look at the Lead Inspector’s letter to the pupils – it is rather lovely (see Annex B on the OfSTED Report).
Thank you on behalf of the school for the wonderful support and belief you give us. As the famous Historian, Kenneth Clark, remarked:
"It is lack of confidence, more than anything else, that kills a civilisation.
We can destroy ourselves by cynicism and disillusion just as effectively as by bombs"
At Stringer, through your support, we remain optimistic and buoyant, confident that the values we hold dear and the love we have for this extraordinary and vibrant community will enable us all to grow as human beings.
Thank you so very much.
