Safer Internet Day 7th February 2012

Safer Internet Day (SID) is organised by Insafe in February of each year to promote safer and more responsible use of online technology and mobile phones, especially amongst children and young people across the world.

Over the years, Safer Internet Day has become a landmark event in the online safety calendar. Starting as an initiative of the EU SafeBorders project in 2004 and taken up by the Insafe network (www.saferinternet.org) as one of its earliest actions in 2005, Safer Internet Day has grown beyond its traditional geographic zone and is now celebrated in more than 70 countries worldwide, and across six of the world's seven continents.

From cyberbullying to social networking, each year Insafe aims to be at the forefront of emerging online issues and chooses a topic reflecting current concerns.

Safer Internet Day 2012 will take place on Tuesday 7th February 2012, centred on the theme "Connecting generations and educating each other", where we encourage users young and old to "discover the digital world together... safely"!
