Peace Garden
This garden is being developed by the Dorothy Stringer Human Rights Action Group. The thinking behind the garden is that it will be a space in the school grounds for sitting quietly and taking some time for contemplation out of the busy day. It would also be a focal point within the school community for raising awareness of global issues that concern us all.
Pupils in the Human Rights Action Group have discussed a number of ideas and plans include creating circular paths, a rockery, the planting of bamboo, lavender, lilies and other scented or symbolic plants, to give the garden a beauty that engages the senses and makes the most of the space available. We would also like to add benches, a mural and a notice board for raising issues.
The development of the garden will need the support of the wider school community, pupils, staff and parents. Pupils who would like to become involved in the project should pop along to the Human Rights Group on Tuesday lunchtimes. It's fun, and you can have your lunch in there! And we're really nice – honest!!!
Anyone in the wider school community who would like to donate any funds, materials or expertise, or contribute in any way could contact Mr. Holtom by email at hlt@dorothy-stringer.co.uk or telephone through the school reception on 01273 852222. Together we can make a difference!
