Year 9 Visit to St John's College, Oxford University
A group of Year 9 pupils, led by Miss Gerrett, got the chance to visit St John's College, Oxford University on Friday, 20th March as part of an LEA visit to the college to find out more about life at one of the world's most famous universities. The visit included participation in special workshops:
- 'What is Politics? And should we care?'
- 'Why Doesn't Everything Collapse?': Exploring the structure of bridges and how the forces in structures can be understood
- 'Telling Tales: What is literature and why do we study it': Exploring what we understand by the term 'literature' and why and how we study it. This workshop was led by an ex-Stringer pupil, Dr Rowan Tomlinson, Supernumerary Teaching Fellow in French at St John’s
The pupils also got a chance to have lunch in the college refectory and to visit the Natural History museum in Oxford. Hopefully the visit will inspire even more Stringer pupils to 'aim high' just like Dr Tomlinson.
