The Mayor 'Takes Part'

On Thursday, 22nd October 2009, The Right Worshipful the Mayor of the City of Brighton & Hove, Councillor Ann Norman, came to our school to thank and congratulate all the of students and teachers that took part in the TAKEPART Festival during the summer.
The Mayor was met by the Head Boy Liam Hooper and Head Girl Grace Spurgeon, along with Mrs Churchley, Mr Baker, Mr Marchant, Ms Wait, Ms Greenough, Mr Wilkinson and our Chair of Governors, Mr Hook. They were also joined inside the presentation by Mr Townsend, Mr Ibbot and Ms Middleton.
The Mayor began her speech by saying thank you for the amount of effort that the pupils and teachers alike had put into the festival. The school worked in conjunction with the Council and the Primary Care Trust to set up the TAKEPART Festival which was enormously successful in its first year, with over 23,000 young people getting involved. The Mayor told the pupils how important it would be on their future careers to have helped out in a community event like this.
As the formal presentation began, the Mayor called out all of the pupils names one by one to present them with a certificate. The Mayor shook hands and had a photo with each student and thanked them individually for their input to the event.
When all of the certificates had been handed out, Mr Hook thanked the Mayor for coming to the school and there was a final round of applause. Then the Mayor was escorted to the Headmaster's office to join everyone for tea and cakes. The perfect chance for DiSH to get in there for a final quote...
"The most important thing was that it is nice to be invited to the school to celebrate the achievements of these students. Dorothy Stringer is known and acknowledged for producing excellent students who leave the school with a very sound education behind them. When they leave the school they are in a wonderful place to move on to a very good career." The Right Worshipful the Mayor of the City of Brighton & Hove, Councillor Ann Norman
