Holocaust Memorial Day - 27th January 2012
Every year on 27th January, the world marks Holocaust Memorial Day (HMD). This provides an opportunity for everyone to learn lessons from Nazi persecution, the Holocaust and subsequent genocides in Cambodia, Bosnia, Rwanda and Darfur in order to challenge hatred and persecution in the UK today.
Holocaust Memorial Day was the theme for the Year 9 assembly this week when students learnt about the survival story of 7 Year old Krystyna Chiger whose family was rescued by a Polish sewer worker, Leopold Socha, in Lvov. We asked students to 'remember the evil but not forget the good' actions of people like Leopold Socha.
Stringer students get the chance to learn more about the Holocaust in Year 9. Please also visit the www.hmd.org.uk website to find out more, see a short film, and sign the pledge to 'Speak Up' against hatred and discrimination.
