Blooming Marvellous

Our names are Lucy Bryan and Hannah Trott and we are in Year 9.

We were entered into the City in Bloom Flowerbed Competition by our art teacher and are now two of the 16 finalists in Brighton and Hove.

In our art lessons with Ms Sell she asked us to draw a flowerbed design, which had to be symmetrical. It took us one lesson to complete the designs. One of our designs is a heart with wings on it with clouds either side (Lucy's) and the other is a variety of colours used to create a pattern (Hannah's).

Ms Sell then sent off the completed designs for selection. We were so happy when we received letters from Brighton and Hove City Council, telling us that we had been chosen as finalists and inviting us to a presentation at The Grand Hotel where the Mayor would present us with certificates.

We were so excited! Everyone at the presentation was very welcoming and we had a great afternoon. When it had finished we stayed for tea and cakes at the hotel!

Our flowerbeds will be planted at Preston Park (Lucy's - Bed Number 11) and Hove Park (Hannah's - Bed Number 2). They are being planted in June and will be fully flowered in August, just in time for the final judging of the competition.

We are thrilled to be finalists and can't wait to see them in full bloom and find out who the final winner will be! Stay tuned to see photos of our flowerbeds when we come back after the summer holidays!
