A Bliss-Full Afternoon!
We were recently contacted by the Assistant Editor of Bliss, a national teen magazine for girls, asking us to participate in a focus group to discuss how they could improve their magazine.
A team of 22 girls from Years 8-11 were selected to take part in the meeting, which saw four member of the Bliss team discussing various aspects of teen culture.
The girls were asked to look at a variety of different magazines and explain what they did or didn't like about each one. They were also asked to talk about various celebrities, looking at what type of cover star would make them want to buy a magazine and why.
The Bliss team had also brought with them several test pages of various new layouts which the girls were asked to critique. Bliss will surely benefit from the many mature and concise comments that the girls made. It was wonderful to see our pupils confidently putting their point of view across in such a mature and professional manner.
The afernoon was extremely interesting and was a valuable insight into the world of journalism and magazine design, especially for the girls involved with our own school magazine, DiSH. We gave copies of our magazine to Bliss, who were higly impressed with its design content and high standard of writing. They were particularly impressed to see our exclusive interview with Hollywood actress Kate Beckinsale, a star even they have been unable to feature! We also showed them our school Newsroom where DiSH is produced and Bliss were full of praise for the project, stating that Dorothy Stringer was "the most media-savvy" school they had ever visited!
We all throughly enjoyed our meeting with Bliss and look forward to seeing the new and improved Bliss on the newstands soon!
