Music

Dorothy Stringer is fortunate in having an extremely strong musical tradition. There is an Orchestra, Jazz Band, Big Choir, Junior Choir and vocal groups Vox and Voxette. Excellence in performance is matched by excellence in teaching from a magnificent modern suite of purpose built classrooms and practice areas.

Regular concerts are given in school, and each year some 60 members of the first orchestra take part in an exchange with music schools in both France and Germany. The Stringer Orchestra has toured the Czech Republic and played in Prague's historical Old Square. The Jazz Band has also 'done' New York! Vox has also toured and given concerts in France.

Many of our young musicians go on to play a leading part in the Brighton Youth Orchestra whilst a number of our most outstanding players continue their musical studies at the Royal Academy and similar institutions. Instrumental tuition is available with specialist teachers by arrangement with the music department.

Stringer's musical reputation is appreciated both locally and nationally. In recent years, groups of children have sung in 'Joseph' at the London Palladium and in three Glyndebourne productions: 'The Queen of Spades', 'Misper' and 'La Bohème'.

There are many Extra Curricular music Clubs that children can join. If you wish to join any of the clubs please contact the member of staff in charge for more details.
