Modern Foreign Languages Trips 2007/08
The MFL Department runs exchanges every year to France, Spain and Germany, to support the learning of the three languages which are taught in the school, French, Spanish and German. The purpose of the exchanges is to provide a real context within which to learn the foreign language, to provide a stimulus to learning the language and to start to get a better understanding of the life and culture of the country than is possible on a normal holiday. It also forms part of our commitment to provide a rich and varied learning experience to pupils studying foreign languages at Dorothy Stringer.

France |
We have been operating exchanges with the Institution St Joseph in Le Havre since 2002, supported by the EU Interreg IIIA programme. The exchanges include visits to Paris, Eurodisney, Honfleur and other destinations in Normandy, as well time spent at the partner school. Dates for the exchanges this academic year are:
- Year 9 Exchange – Le Havre 14th - 20th March 2008 : Brighton 15th – 21st December 2007
- Year 7 Exchange – Le Havre 4th - 9th March 2008 : Brighton 27th February – 3rd March 2008

Spain |
Dorothy Stringer has a partnership with the IES Marqués de Suanzes in Madrid and this is the second year that we are running an exchange for our year 10 pupils who have opted for Spanish at KS4. Whilst in Madrid, pupils visit the Prado Museum, the Parque del Retiro, Bernabéu Stadium, the Palacio Real and Plaza Mayor, and there is also a day trip to Toledo. The dates for this year are:
- Madrid : 2nd – 9th June 2008
- Brighton : 26th April – 3rd May 2008

Germany |
The exchange with the Hausach Gymnasium in the beautiful Black Forest has been operating for 14 years and is the longest-standing exchange in the school. This exchange is designed for year 9 pupils studying German. Visits include a chair lift ride up a mountain and dry-slope tobogganing down it, the impressive swimming complex in Freudenstadt, the historical town of Freiburg, a day trip to Lake Constance on the border with Switzerland, including a boat trip across the lake and a walk across the Swiss border, and a day at Europapark, a huge theme park. The dates for the exchange this year are:
- Brighton : 23rd – 30th June 2008
