Library

The Dorothy Stringer Library is situated upstairs, above the canteen.

Opening Times

The Library is a well stocked resources. The room itself is very welcoming with attractive and interesting books which are regularly updated. The Art Department supply the Library with a high standard of students work, which is displayed to great effect amongst the literature and brings tremendous atmosphere to the room. Our displays are changed regularly in the Library, with a new author and subject promoted to encourage further reading and interest in various topics.

The calm atmosphere of the Library offers students the chance for quiet reading for pleasure or as a study resource, with a large variety of refernce books for researching topics on one of our eleven computers.

The Library is used extensively by both students and staff. With English lessons booked here on a regular basis, book boxes prepared for all teachers and the Library shelves constantly full, we hope that the Library will continue to be a very popular and well frequented part of Dorothy Stringer.

We try to promote interest in events in and around brighton with leaflets and displays on our notice boards. We also have weekly newspapers and popular magazines available for students use. We also detail most youth clubs in the Brighton and Hove area.

We now also have a CD section which we are building up constantly. Some of the titles currently on offer include: Doctor Who; Anthony Horowitz and Jacqueline Wilson. Why not pop in and take a look?

The Library encourages eager volunteers who offer us their services, particularly at break and lunchtimes, helping to maintain the Library. It is a sociable opportunity, boosting students' skills in a warm and friendly environment. Many of our helpers use the time they spend in the Library toward their Duke of Edinburgh Award.
