Learning Support - Introduction

At Dorothy Stringer we continually strive to support the teaching and learning that goes on in the school so that Special Educational Needs pupils can achieve their potential. The Learning Support team, comprising of eleven dedicated teachers and support assistants, aims to work alongside teachers in all departments to support students who, for a variety of reasons, find life at school difficult.

Support is given through a variety of methods such as the adaptation of materials and in-class support. We also use a system of withdrawal based in a large teaching room, divided with screens for group work and three small rooms for individual working.

We are committed to delivering our policy, which has an emphasis on early identification and assessment of the specific needs of students, and to creating individual education plans to enable access to a balanced and broadly based curriculum.

The school has a Support Centre with expertise in Behaviour management for pupils who need to be withdrawn from classes for short periods.
