The Battle of Hastings in 1066, between the French army of Duke William of Normandy and the English army led by King Harold II, is one of the most important events in British history. It was the last successful invasion of Britain, and turned the country from Anglo–Saxon England into the country we live in today. King Harold lost the battle and it is believed he died from an arrow in his eye but is that why he lost the battle? In this key assignment you must explain why Harold lost and explain what the most important reasons are. |

The Medieval Church played a far greater role in Medieval England than the Church does today. In Medieval England, the Church dominated everybody's life. All Medieval people believed that God, Heaven and Hell all existed. From an early age people were taught that the only way they could get to Heaven was if the Roman Catholic Church let them. The Black Death, or Black Plague, was one of the most devastating pandemics in human history. It began in south-western Asia and spread to Europe by the late 1340s, where it received its name Black Death. The total number of deaths worldwide from the pandemic is estimated at 75 million people. The Black Death is estimated to have killed between a third and two-thirds of Europe's population. There is some controversy over the identity of the disease, but its virulent form seems to have disappeared from Europe in the 18th century. |
