Health at Stringer
"It's self evident that pupils can fulfil their potential only when they are healthy, happy and at ease in all areas of their lives." Dorothy Stringer School is proud to be part of the Healthy Schools Scheme. We gained the Silver award in 2003 and are currently working towards re-assessment and the Gold standard. |

A 'Healthy School is a whole school project that also works with the local community. It gives us a system to focus on what is important to the school and to achieve a 'positive community', 'Awareness to a Healthy Lifestyle', 'Keeping Safe', 'Making positive Choices' and 'Supporting others'. |
As part of the scheme we have spent a considerable amount of time listening to our pupils and finding out what they want. As a result, we have made the school toilets a standard all schools are aiming for. We have also provided a number of drinking fountains and have improved the quality of food supplied. And our aim, based on feedback from pupils councils and questionnaires, is to improve the food supplied further still so that it is healthy and nutritious for all pupils. We are also hope to develop the counselling and mentoring within the school. |

"A healthy school is one that is successful in helping pupils to do their best and build on their achievements. It is committed to on-going improvement and development. It promotes physical and emotional health by providing accessible and relevant information and equipping pupils with the skills and attitudes to make informed decisions about their health. A healthy school understands the importance of investing in health to assist in the process of raising levels of pupil achievement and improving standards. It also recognises the need to provide both a physical and social environment that is conductive to learning." |
