Course Content

Health and Social Care (Double Award) is a sound choice for students with an interest in Health and Social Care and the future employment possibilities it could offer them. It gives students a background of both theory and practice within the sector and will meet their need to acquire knowledge and to understand the structures and practice within the sector as a precursor to further education and/or training.

GCSE Health and Social Care - Structure

Unit 1: Health, Social Care and Early Years Provision (Coursework 33.33%)

The care industry is split into three areas, health care, social care and early years care. You will look at what each of the services does and how they work together to provide care of different people. You will find out about the many different jobs that are on offer within the care industry and how people must behave in these jobs. Your work experience in Year 10 will be taken in the Early Years Sector.

Unit 2: Promoting Health and Well-being (Coursework 33.33%)

This unit will help you look after your own health and well-being and understand ways of helping others. There are many things that affect people's health and well-being from a balanced diet and exercise to having an interesting job. You will learn to understand the positive factors in your health and well-being as well as the risks.

Unit 3: Understanding Personal Development and Relationships (Exam 33.33%)

As people get older they change. They grow in size, they change the way they think and act. You will find out about the different stages and the different relationships that people have, for example family and how people are changed by the birth of a baby. Also how expected and unexpected life events affect our Physical, Intellectual, Emotional and Social development.
