Trips and Activities
Ghana Trip 2009
Following our hugely succesful trip to Ghana in February 2008, we are very happy to confirm that we will be making a return visit for 10 days from 14th-25th February 2009.
Expectations of Costs
- Basic cost of trip (including flights, payment to tour company, entrance fees, Ghanaian visa, administration) based on costs in February 2008 will be approximately £1100
- The cost has to be approximate at this stage, as there are variables such as cost of flight and number of pupils participating
- For additional costs (including medical and toiletries) please allow approximately £150
- Pocket money £40-£100
Medical
- It is essential to have a vaccination against Yellow Fever – without the certificate you can not enter the country
- It is also essential to take anti-malarial drugs for a visit to Ghana – seek independent medical advice on which form to take
- Hepatitis vaccination is also recommended but not essential
- You will also find Rabies vaccination on the recommended list as well as up to date Polio and Tetanus
You must seek independent medical advice on these matters we can not give specific advice.
Passports and Visas
Passports must be valid for at least 6 months beyond the travel date. We will be making a group application for Visas in December 2008/January 2009. We will need all Passports to be in our possession for 1 to 2 weeks to enable us to do this. If your Passport is anything other than a UK one you must tell us so we can find out if there are additional requirements or complications.
General Safety and Well-Being
Having conducted two preparatory trips and our first pupil trip in February 2008, we feel that overall the risk to pupils is low throughout the stay in Ghana. A thorough risk assessment has been put in place. The minibuses in which we travel are well presented and well driven, the accommodation is of good if not excellent standard and pupils are not put in situations where they could be at risk of personal injury. All the areas that we visited are supported by good medical facilities.
Proposed Schedule of Build-Up Events
