Recycling
Here at Dorothy Stringer we have many recycling projects that need your support. We recycle a number of different things:
- Tin Foil: Large green box is in the central foyer – money raised goes to the ‘Hearing Dogs for the Deaf’.
- Shoes: Big blue container in the central foyer – shoes are used by Variety Club helping communities in Eastern Europe, Central Asia and Africa.
- Corks: Red box in central foyer – these corks will be used to insulate one wall (and potentially one of the roof cavities if we get enough) of the Brian Foster Environment Centre as part of an experiment into sustainable insulation.
- Mobile Phones: Box in the School Office money raised goes to The Woodland Trust.
- Inkjet Cartridges: Box in Reprographics HP, Lexmark, Dell and Canon but not Epson.
- Cooking Oil: This is a new project called ‘Slick Schools’ organized by Magpie Recycling. Your son or daughter should have brought a green leaflet home about this. Over the next year we will be collecting waste cooking oil so it can be turned in bio-diesel. For more information click here. There is a yellow bin in the central foyer for the oil. Please send it in a screw top plastic bottle not flip lids or glass.
We produce a huge amount of waste paper which mostly gets recycled. Some of the better quality paper that is only printed on one side is saved and turned into note pads by the Eco Club. These are on sale at Reception.
We hope that you are able to support the schemes with have in place and welcome any new ideas you may have.
