The Level Ladder
What do you need to do in your lessons to climb the ladder?
At Exceptional Performance I can:
- Performance: Sustain complex technical skills throughout a performance. Sustain high levels of expressive skills throughout a performance.
- Choreography: Consistently produce movement material of a high quality. Produce dances that show innovation and originality.
- Appreciation: Make judgements independently on how aspects of dance could be developed. Prioritise aspects for further development.
- H and F: Consistently identify the skills required and a dancers ability to carry out these skills. Suggest ways a dancers' skill could be developed further.
At Level 8 I can:
- Performance: Consistently display complex technical skills.
- Choreography: Show complex use of phrasing, patterning and relationships. Evoke an audience response.
- Appreciation: Write down action plans for development. Suggest ways of monitoring developments.
- H and F: Create action plans to develop areas of your technique. Use your understaning of dance to evaluate your own and others development plans.
At Level 7 I can:
- Performance: Accurately perform all features of the dance. Remember full length dances. Show stamina and strength.
- Choreography: Create original movement material. Use structure and form.
- Appreciation: Comment on how aspects of performance influence choreography and vice versa. Set targets in response to identified strengths and limitations.
- H and F: Able to identify how to prevent injury. Plan a recuperation programme for a dancer recovering from an injury.
At Level 6 I can:
- Performance: Show sensitivity to other dancers. Show fluidity. Show characterisation and expression.
- Choreography: Use different relationships including complementary and contrasting. Show musical awareness and phrasing.
- Appreciation: Identify strengths and weaknesses of different dances. Suggest ways to improve a dance.
- H and F: Identify the technical skills you are good at and areas you need to develop. Plan a regular programme of dance activity to undertake.
At Level 5 I can:
- Performance: Use different dynamics (speed, weight, flow). Clearly communicate the dance idea.
- Choreography: Use motif and development. Create movement to suit different stimuli.
- Appreciation: Answer specific questions on others' dances. Comment on hte impact of others' work.
- H and F: Explain why different styles of dance need different types of warm up. Explain what to do in the event of an injury.
At Level 4 I can:
- Performance: Remember the dance (movement memory). Show the dance idea/style.
- Choreography: Use the space by varying levels, directions and pathways. Use canon and unison.
- Appreciation: Answer simple questions on others' dances. Make basic comments on peers' performances.
- H and F: Indentify and follow basic good studio practice. Describe the effect dance has on your body and why it is important for fitness and health.
At Level 3 I can:
- Performance: Use focus. Show body tension. Maintain balance.
- Choreography: Select movement that relates to the dance idea. Create simple shapes.
- Appreciation: Comment on what I like and dislike in others' dances.
- H and F: Explain why it is important to warm up using specific reasons.
