Laban Open Day
On Friday, 23rd November 2007, Miss Kemp took 15 Gifted and Talented dancers to take part in an Open Day at
the centre for excellence in Dance: Laban.
The day included talks on careers and opportunities for training at Laban, a tour of the fantastic building and
facilities, a performance by Laban’s Dance Company, and an afternoon of workshops.
The pupils were truly amazing and engaged the whole time. Laban staff complimented the school on the talent, conduct and professionalism of all its pupils. Well done to all that came on the day, it was thoroughly enjoyable.
We hope to see some of you heading off to Laban in the future!

A Day With 'Rambert Dance Company'
Recently a selection of the Gifted and Talented dancers were invited down to Patcham High School to participate
in a shared workshop with Patcham and Longhill students.
The workshop was run by leading contemporary dance company ‘Rambert Dance Company’. The pupils got to experience learning repertoire from Rambert’s new work, and then developed it creatively.
It is hoped that the work learnt will be taught and developed with all Gifted and Talented students and performed
as a piece in our forthcoming Dance Show.
Well done to all those who participated. You were an asset to the school and displayed yourselves in a truly professional manner. Teachers from the other two schools praised not only your ability, but your conduct too.

Gifted and Talented
The Gifted and Talented Programme in Dance recognises those with a particular flare in performance, composition or both. The aim of the recognition is to help provide the students with some extra opportunities and chances to develop, that they might not necessarily obtain during curriculum time.
The register is updated regularly, implementing new pupils on to the programme. We hope to develop more ideas, initiatives and opportunities in the future to continue to support these pupils. Particular work will be created and displayed in Dance Show.
The Gifted and Talented Programme
Gifted and Talented Session: An early morning session will be taken to improve, firstly the pupil’s experience, but also hopefully their ability and chance to work with other capable students.
Individual Fitness Programme: Pupils have especially designed fitness programmes in the fitness suite specific to their own physical needs in dance. Pupils will be able to execute this fitness programme at any given time in the fitness suite. Each pupil has a key that tracks their workouts and progress.
Extra-Curricular Dance at Dorothy Stringer: Pupils participation in extra curricular dance clubs at school will be monitored
Links With Outside Organisations: Links will be made with Brighton university to give pupils an insight into the anatomy and diet of a dancer promoting good practice in dance.
Trips: Specific dance trips will be available for pupils including visits to dance schools that offer vocational courses in dance, for example Laban and The Place.
Video Analysis: Gifted and Talented pupils will be regularly videoed as a means to discuss improvements to technique.
