The COMPASS Team

There are five main members of COMPASS:

Terry Moriarty:
MA, Cert. Teacher of the Deaf, PG Diploma in Counselling (Distinction)
After many years teaching in secondary schools, further education and special education - the latter including work in a school for the deaf and in a unit for young people with emotional and behavioural difficulties - I qualified as a counsellor in 2000. Since that time I have worked at Dorothy Stringer as well as other local schools and also practice privately. I work both with adolescents and adults and as a counselling supervisor. I work from a Humanist/Person-Centred perspective, but also use Cognitive Behavioural Therapy where appropriate Although most of my clients are young people whom I see on a one to one basis, I also work with families.

Fiona Porter:
BSc (Hons) Cognitive Science, MSc in Counselling and Psychotherapy
My work as a counsellor/psychotherapist has mainly been in educational environments - universities and secondary schools - although I also work with families affected by substance misuse and those affected by dementia. Having qualified in 2007, I am UKCP registered and a member of the BACP. My work is informed by my training in different therapeutic approaches including Person-Centred, Existential, Analytic and Art Psychotherapy. Therefore my aim is to provide a space that enables me to work in a way that is suited to each person.

Sam Taylor:
PG Diploma in Counselling, PG Diploma in Play Therapy and Accredited Play Therapist
I have 15 years experience of working with children, young people, adults and families in school and community settings. I am a qualified Person Centred Counsellor and pratice as a Play Therapist when working with young people. I am a member of the BACP and PTUK. Play Therapy is helpful for a wide range of emotional and behavioural problems arising from the complex issues that young people face today. Using art and a creative tool kit I can help young people explore and express their feelings and concerns without always having to rely on words.

Miss R. Owca:

I am a trainee counsellor/mentor. You may be referred to me if you need someone sympathetic to listen to you. I will try to understand your situation from your point of view without judging you. I will help you reach your own conclusions about your situation and help you find a way forward that best suits your individual needs. If necessary, I can also refer you to other counselling/mentoring/information services for further help. I am also studying Humanistic Therapeutic Counselling whilst teaching RS and Citizenship and Psychology at Dorothy Stringer.

Miss A. Bento:

I will help you to recognise your potential and feel better about yourself; We will identify what is important to you in your life and how you can go about getting it. I will also teach you ways of coping better with any problems that you may be experiencing.
