Counselling - Group work
|
There are areas where small numbers of pupils share a common difficulty. This could be making the transition from primary to secondary school or feeling less confident in general. A counsellor or experienced member of staff can work with such small groups in a structured programme. Using the Quality Circle Time model of games, discussion and reflection, problems are shared and solutions explored in a positive and uncritical atmosphere. Art and roll play are also used to enable difficult issues to be explored in a helpful atmosphere. |
Quality Circle TimeThe school counsellor is an accredited secondary school Quality Circle Time trainer. Many staff, trainee teachers and Year 10 Peer mentors experience this method of working with students as part of the Professional Development Programme. The Year 6 on their school visit and Year 7's in their first Year build on the valuable circle work they have had in primary school. Pupils transferring from another school in the area may also benefit from transition counselling through YAC if this is appropriate. |
