Anti Bullying
Bullying is what happens when people forget to show respect for the feelings and well-being of others. Sometimes this has already happened to them. There are many useful websites that describe what bullying is in detail, such as www.coastkid.org.
Bullying can't happen unless people who are observers, onlookers or watchers do nothing to stop it. Sometimes bullies rely on reinforcement and encouragement from an audience who (for instance) laugh at the victim, making their feeling of isolation worse Sometimes there are outsiders who don't join in the laughter, but pretend not to notice that the bullying is happening Bullies sometimes have 'assistants', who support the bully and are keen to join in.
Bullying can take place in many different forms. These include (but not limited to):
- Name calling
- Violence (or threats of violence)
- Stealing somebodys property
- Spreading rumours about people
At Dorothy Stringer there are many ways of approaching the problem of bullying. The first and very important one is that we take action, to make sure that it stops as soon as possible. The school has many channels for pupils to feel they can talk or ask about a problem they are having. These pages are just one of them.
